Individual Counselling

Our experienced and supportive counsellors will listen carefully to your concerns, help you explore and express your feelings and help you find ways to manage your feelings more effectively.

Parent Support / Parenting skills sessions

Parenting is often considered the most difficult job and the most important responsibility you will have in your life. Most parents learn what they know through friends and family or their own personal experience — and most of the time this works.  For those times when it doesn’t, our Counsellors are there to help.  We offer support and practical strategies to help you understand what your child is going through, and ways in which you can work with them to smooth out the rough patches.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO SEE A COUNSELLOR OR A PSYCHOLOGIST AND WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

Changes facilitated by counselling could include a change in perspective, new insight, new ways of thinking about situations, new awareness of feelings, enhanced capacity to tolerate and regulate feelings, new actions or behaviours and new decisions about life.

Both Psychologists and Counsellors are able to provide support in these areas. Depending on your child’s concerns and presentation, we may recommend either a Counsellor or Psychologist for treatment.  Psychologists are also trained in the assessment and diagnosis of mental health concerns.

Every child is different but there are a number of key signs that your child may require some help.  These include:

  • Avoidance of situations
  • Low mood
  • Heightened anxiety including separation anxiety impacting on daily life
  • Challenging behaviours
  • Impact of behaviour on family function
  • Difficulty with friendships or other relationships
  • Extreme emotional reactions
  • Challenges with self confidence

WHAT CAN I DO?

Give us a call to book an appointment with one of our Counselling team members.  We like to spend some time with parents first and then meet children in the following session so we can fully understand any concerns raised. If we feel a referral to other disciplines may help your child we will discuss this with you following our first session.
